A Girl Among Boys? (May 29, 2008)
Pretty light hearted one… a 12 year old girl too good to play bball with boys, I call BS on an anti-MLB story, and kudos to David Stern.

“i agree with you on the merits that jamie should not be allowed to play with these boys and it only makes sense to move her up to a higher age group. but don’t be so quick to proclaim that she is dominant and that she will be a great wnba player. for starters, we don’t know how much bigger she will grow by the time shes in college and whether she will be able to compete at a higher level. she is only dominant because these 12 yr olds are much smaller.
just look at the hype freddy adu received as a young budding superstar for soccer and now his football career hasnt really resurrected to the level people assumed he could acheive, instead being plagued by the intense glare of publicity. so only time will tell whether she will be an adu or handle the pressure of the hype machine and become a sidney crosby, who lived up to his billings.
The MLB story i also am not sure whether there is any validity to it either, but i would not be surprised if its true. i mean, what do you expect from a sport that is dealing with this steroids scandal and is run by the worst commissioner in baseball history in Bud Selig. Youre giving them too much credit when you say the MLB is smart.
Theres no question in my mind that the MLB is committed to making money when alot of their activities involve a cash influx and opportunities to make more $$. For example, last season the MLB attempted to crack down on fantasy games and for the rights to players names because they wanted a piece of that pie. fantasy is a billion dollar business and highly successful, and they didnt care at all if it was attracting more fans, which is really does, nor did they care about the fantasy players who enjoy the game, they were ready to go all the way with fantasy, demanding money for the use of the player names. luckily the courts found in favor of fantasy. id imagine if they took it all the way with the children they would lose too because there is no law against the use of player names, or team names.
Finally, i also respect David Stern. Considering there are so many stupid commissioners running our sports these days it is a breath of fresh air to see stern go above the fray. hes not perfect but definitely better than the rest. i would only add that i really do love his voice when he go up to the podium for drafts….with the first pick in the 2008 nba draft….the chicago bulls select…… To be continued…..”

“Hey Anonymous, thanks for listening and for the detailed response! I love reading what my listeners are thinking. Absolutely agree with the fact that she may indeed not be an WNBA star, great Freddy Adu reference; I was being slightly dramatic
