“Because Two Cents Just Isn’t Enough”

THE INTRO

Ah well…

As soon as I jokingly write up this whole intro about how awesome I am, I have an awful week last week.

I mean geez, football/gambling gods, it was a frigging joke. I know I suck at this. My readers know I suck at this. The whole town knows I suck at this.

You can’t let me have a chuckle or two after one good week?

In any case, all I really hope for this week is that we DON’T see a Pittsburgh vs. Chicago Super Bowl.

Talk about boring. Talk about class acts (or the exact opposite) at quarterback. Bleh.

Just give me someone to root for! I want to drink myself into oblivion in cheering and good times during the Super Bowl, not in sadness and boredom.

At this point, I hope the Jets win it all. The heartwarming explanation for that would be that I am rooting for them because my brother and father are Jets fans, and I’m just a great family guy.

But alas, my real reasoning is much more selfish, with my 15-to-1 bet on them to win it all still alive. When you are down to four teams that you have no rooting interest in, the one that you stand to gain from makes sense as your popular choice.

We shall see what happens.

THE PICKS

SUNDAY

#6 Green Bay Packers (-3.5) @ #2 Chicago Bears (+3.5)
I’ve been a believer in the Chicago Bears for a while now. A fan, no, but a believer. Jay Cutler can be awful, but he can also be pretty damn good at times too. And more importantly, the defense is fantastic. Green Bay has looked amazing over the last few weeks, and Aaron Rodgers is clearly a force to be reckoned with. But neither Philadelphia or Atlanta have a defense like Chicago’s. Green Bay has a great defense too, and this one should be a dogfight. As hot as Green Bay is, I’m surprised that the Bears are GETTING 3.5 points at home. Not only do I think they can keep the game close, but I also think that at home, they are going to eek out a win as well.
PICK WITH THE SPREAD: Chicago
PICK WITHOUT THE SPREAD: *Chicago
OVER/UNDER 42.5: Under

#6 New York Jets (+4.0) @ #2 Pittsburgh Steelers (-4.0)
Despite the fact that this one doesn’t have the history that Green Bay/Chicago does, it should be an equally intense and physical game. Like Green Bay, the Jets haven’t played a defense nearly this good. On the other hand, they have already beaten two of the game’s best offenses and quarterbacks on the road with great defense, so can’t they do the same this week? Hard to say. But I lean slightly towards Pittsburgh for two reasons; 1) Teams simply can’t run the ball on the Steelers, and if the Jets are forced to abandon the running game, it will hurt their chances. 2) The Jets already beat Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh. I know, for some that may be a case for New York… but for me, I’m thinking Pittsburgh is too good and too proud to let it happen again. Gotta take the points here in what should be a great and close game, but I’m taking the Steelers to win it.
PICK WITH THE SPREAD: NY Jets
PICK WITHOUT THE SPREAD: Pittsburgh
OVER/UNDER 38: Under

So I’m going with the two results I don’t want to see. Cool.

Good luck! Thanks for reading!
