My 2010 College Football Top 25 Rankings Week 14

Rank Up/Down Record Team
1 12-0 Auburn – So apparently, even distracted by looming NCAA decision and down 24-0 IN Alabama, Cam Newton and the Tigers still can’t be stopped. One more tough one this week to prove they are the clear cut Number One heading into bowl season.
1 11-0 Oregon – By the numbers, the Civil War should pose no threat at all to Oregon this Saturday, and it may not… but rivalry games aren’t always played by the numbers.
1 12-0 TCU – A National Championship berth would be nice, but an undefeated season, a trip to the Rose Bowl, and facing a team other than Boise State in a bowl to show the world what they are made of? Not a bad consolation prize, assuming the big two stay undefeated.
2 11-1 Wisconsin – Playing as well as any team in the country right now. Well-deserved Rose Bowl bid ahead for the impressive Badgers.
2 11-1 Stanford – And I wish it was Stanford playing against Wisconsin in a Pac 10 vs. Big Ten showdown, but a trip to the Holiday or Fiesta Bowl isn’t bad. Would have been criminal to see Stanford snubbed from a bowl game; Boise State loss was huge.
2 11-1 Ohio State – It was a National Championship-or-bust season for the Buckeyes; still, a win in the Sugar Bowl would certainly take some of the edge off.
5 10-2 Arkansas – Big win over LSU likely earned Arkansas a trip to the Sugar Bowl. No shame in being “best of the rest” in college football’s toughest conference.
2 11-1 Michigan State – If told before the season that the Spartans would go 11-1 and won a share of the Big Ten title, they’d have been elated. While I’m sure the team is far from upset with their fantastic season, being the odd-team-out in the Big Ten BCS picture is ashame, especially considering their win over Wisconsin.
6 10-1 Boise State – ABSOLUTE disaster. Nevada has a great team, but most in the nation doesn’t notice or care; this loss sets back the non-BCS movement quite a bit. Championship/Rose Bowl to Humanitarian Bowl? Heartbreak in Boise.
5 10-2 LSU – Only losses this season came to two of the SEC’s (and the country’s) best teams in Auburn and Arkansas, and both came down to the fourth quarter. Wild ride of a season for LSU, but fell just short.
3 10-2 Oklahoma – Road woes appear to be in the past with huge win at Oklahoma State; a win over Nebraska in the Big 12 Championship makes this a very successful season for Landry Jones and the Sooners.
1 10-2 Virginia Tech – With a win over Florida State in the ACC Title game, the Hokies would officially make their 0-2 start irrelevant.
3 10-2 Nebraska – Just about every bowl projection I’ve read has Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl against Stanford or the Big East Champion. I’m not so sure Nebraska plans on just rolling over in the Big 12 Championship.
1 10-2 Missouri – Blowout win over rival Kansas a great way to end a great regular season for the Tigers.
6 10-2 Oklahoma State – Thrilling game against Oklahoma, but the Cowboys weren’t able to pull it off at home. Only two losses came to Big 12’s best (Nebraska and Oklahoma)
3 11-1 Nevada – Outstanding win for Colin Kaepernick and Nevada’s football program over Boise State. Have to wonder… where would the Wolf Pack rank had they not lost to Hawaii?
6 9-3 Alabama – Concerns on defense coming into the season were overshadowed by everyone returning on offense and Nick Saban being at the helm. Three losses later, the Crimson Tide’s weaknesses were clearly exposed.
1 9-3 South Carolina – There is a short list of coaches in the nation that have any chance at all of figuring out a way to pull off the upset against Auburn; Steve Spurrier is on that list. SEC Championship could be closer than some expect it to be.
1 9-3 Texas A&M – Win at Texas capped off a six-game winning streak to end the season, including wins over Nebraska and Oklahoma. Would love to see what they could do against Oklahoma State and Missouri in this top form.
2 9-3 Florida State – Blowout wins over both Florida and Miami, and a trip to the ACC Championship; solid season for the Seminoles, and could get even better with an upset over Virginia Tech.
2 10-2 Utah – At 10-2, Utah’s season wasn’t a failure… but embarrassing losses to TCU and Notre Dame and no quality wins (sorry Pitt) make it hard to call a success.
3 8-4 Mississippi State – No room for Mississippi State in the SEC West, but a strong showing this season at 8-4.
8-3 West Virginia – If South Florida tops UConn, West Virginia could end up winning the Big East and heading to a BCS bowl game. Deserving or not, that would be something.
9-3 Hawaii – Exciting team, great passing game; and how much better does the upset over Nevada look now? Should finish up 10-3 with a win over UNLV Saturday.
10-2 Northern Illinois* – *Rankings done earlier this week, did not factor in loss to Miami (OH) on Friday night.

Dropped Out: Arizona (#20), NC State (#21), Iowa (#24)
